The Prisoner's Dream
In addition to official commissions, Schwind produced a number of smaller paintings like this for his own pleasure. He called them `travel pictures¿, `occasional poems¿ or `lyrical works¿. Their exact subjects cannot always be identified, but they relate closely to themes and moods favoured in Romantic literature.
