Medea
The heroine of Euripides's play »Medea« is abandoned by her husband Jason and in revenge kills the children they have had. In his history painting Feuerbach homes in not on the dreadful deed itself, but on a moment of tranquillity. The effect is all the more searing in its monumentality.
