A Hypochondriac
Many of Spitzweg¿s paintings focus on a humorous and easily intelligible contrast between old, often eccentric men and the glowing vitality of young women. In this example the old man lifts his nose to sniff the morning air, while his gaze descends discreetly to the open window of a neighbouring house, where a young woman is seen sewing.
