Spanish Serenade
Eight musicians have gathered by moonlight to perform a serenade in a southern European town. The woman they are playing for stands on the balcony above them. Spitzweg titled the painting Spanish Serenade. Schack went further, seeing a connection with the serenade sung at the beginning of Rossini¿s Barber of Seville. However, neither setting nor figures correspond exactly to the scene and characters in the opera.
