Ideal Spring Landscape
The viewer is transported to the Renaissance age. Men and women are engaged in leisure pursuits in a park next to a villa. Schack stresses the ‘fabulous character’ of the painting, noting that, ‘as with some pictures by Giorgione, what it represents cannot actually be established. It is sufficient that it creates a poetic impression, appearing to us like a landscape we have seen in a beautiful dream’.
