Idealized view of the Acropolis and the Areopagus in Ahens
Klenze's paintings differ from those of his equally artistic fellow architect Schinkel in their greater emphasis on archaeology. In this work, it is the coloration of the architecture that stands out, as Klenze's response to the contemporary controversy about the colour of buildings in antiquity.
