Helene Fourment in Her Bridal Gown
Four years after the death of his first wife (see "The Honeysuckle Bower"), Rubens married Helene Fourment, considered to be the prettiest woman in Flanders, the 16 year-old daughter of a merchant. Here he has depicted her dressed as a bride. Rubens first conceived the painting as a 3/4-figure, but later enlarged it to full-size.
