The Violinist
This musician's elegant Renaissance garments lend him an extravagant air. To play his violin he has climbed a church tower: the painter seems to be saying that all true artists must rise above the everyday world and its concerns. This aura of exclusivity is reinforced by subtle yet striking colour harmonies, especially in the distant view of the evening sky at the lower left.
