Paumgartner Altar
The Adoration of the Christ Child by Maria, Joseph and the shepherds is depicted by Dürer according to the Legenda aurea, placing it in a covered passageway between two dwellings. The Paumgartner family and Barbara Paumgartner's second husband, Hans Schönbach, are shown kneeling in the foreground. On the wings the Paungartner brothers Stephan and Lukas are portrayed a second time as SS George and Eustace. The architectural setting reveals Dürer's preoccupation with the problems of perspective.
