The Assumption of the Virgin
This work, which was painted on silk, was done for the high altar of the Church of the Brotherhood of Santa Maria degli Angioli in Modena. Owing to the parish's financial problems the painting was sold only 19 years after its completion to an unknown buyer from Bologna. The artist's austere classical late style was held in high esteem especially during the 19th century.
