THEA DJORDJADZE Inventur SGSM

Pinakothek der Moderne
Staatliche Graphische Sammlung München

 ‐

In recent years the young Georgian artist Thea Djordjadze (b. 1971) has attracted considerable attention on the international art scene with her sublime installations. Her delicate posits seem to be made for just a fleeting moment only to re-form themselves surprisingly in the next – a sensual stimulation viewers find hard to resist.

What is less well-known is that Thea Djordjadze attaches great importance to the art of drawing. Not least for that reason she values the masterpieces of colleagues as essential sources of inspiration for her own artistic work.

For the first time she will realise a Gesamtkunstwerk (a total work of art) in the exhibition spaces of Staatliche Graphische Sammlung München where she will initiate a dialogue between the Modernist drawings she has selected from the collection and her own installation. Thus she opens new spaces to the visitor containing changing points of view and fresh perspectives on classical works on paper.
